Short Film Screenplay + Production

When my longtime friend Thomas asked me if I'd be interested in helping him bring his short film to life, I agreed almost immediately. His idea was to revive the popular screamo scene that was such a prevalent part of our teenage years through a character he'd play, named Marty.

It was SO MUCH FUN to write the screenplay for this film, which was featured in the 2014 Emerge Film Festival. I also helped with hair, makeup, costumes, location scouting, and more - this was an all hands on deck endeavor that paid off in the form of laughs, exhaustion, and some really good times.

When former hardcore enthusiast Marty Johnson wakes up from a seven-year coma, he doesn’t anticipate just how vastly the world has changed. Myspace is no longer the ultimate social network, no one cares about the emo scene anymore, and – worst of all – Marty’s girlfriend Molly appears to be dating someone else. Still seventeen at heart, Marty struggles with the implications of adulthood, responsibility, and finding skinny jeans that still fit – no easy feat for a man who used to wear women’s jeans. She Doesn’t Love Marty explores what it would be like to stay the same in a crowd of people who’ve moved on.
